And that’s a wrap 2021. With that much grief, challenge and awkward beauty in one year, all we've left is to offer a welcome to the new, 2022.
I’m pleased you’re here, sharing in the sentiment, ... honestly, I’m really glad we are here. My thoughts and prayers to those whose circumstance contrast this poorly.
The feelings we’re left swimming in after such a year, need their own shore and when it’s hard to see any semblance of such a shore, some sort of anchor would likely do. What my ‘beachy', Melbourne Summer-self suggests here, is that during times of everything, ‘globally’, being unstable, we need our most treasured resources. In my case, that means my loved ones, my loved spaces, the sky, tea, time and art. As I write I wonder what yours are dear reader, and I send a prayer of love your way, visualising that one of your personally designed resources, is in good reach for you to use in this moment.
Designing allows the breath to move. Illustrating a line, shape, colour and texture, moves one to breathe. This is showing up in my work at the moment as I respond to blooms in the garden. At times they are leaping right onto the page, ready to be shared.
Last week I found myself using ‘sharpies' to make large scale poster drawing Illustrations with my 5 year old. Thinking specifically of a few of our little friends and their families, we set out to make some contemporary art, colouring-in poster pages in support of their convalescence through the Pandemic. Infusing each work with our chats and love as we drew, it was planned that these might be useful to pass the time. By the end of drawing together, as we sat, in our own little way we were silently, contently, connected with our friends. This simple activity enriched our festive hearts, offering precious solace, lost in the timelessness of art making, together.
Art with purpose for others' healing. Art made together.
So here’s to the potential exisiting in all creative pursuits ahead of us in 2022. If you need help to clear the residue of last year’s difficulties from your being and from your spaces, consider creating something specifically nurturing and new, and email or call me here at Ysh Studio to have the talk and move your idea into your newest reality.
Warmth,
Yvonne.
